Last time we talked about Noxious, we talked about the game???¢??s engine, the dev team, the challenges of development and in how short of a time the game was made.
Today, we???¢??ll be talking about the game itself Noxious is a great indie Dead Space clone that is surprisingly fun despite the short amount of time it was put together. As I mentioned in the previous article, players are put in the shoes of Nathaniel Stryder, a scientist who gets trapped in the facility he works at with alien-like creatures that he once experimented on. The game isn???¢??t long, roughly 20 minutes, but players will encounter alien centipedes known as Spitters, insect-like bugs that can???¢??t stay off your back called Swarmers, and the big bad enemy, the Tank. Killer alien creatures aside, the game boasts a difficult yet satisfying experience that???¢??ll leave a good taste in your mouth and wanting more.
Noxious may be a clone, but that???¢??s not a bad thing, and has it???¢??s own features to set it apart from Dead Space itself. For example, the shield mechanic. Once players eventually come across the shield blast, it will turn their world upside down. Tanks will charge head on in to your shield and allow you to use a charged shot that can one hit the Tanks. This was a clever use of a shield mechanic and something that made me want to come back for more. So I did. After the team released their Gauntlet mode, it was all fun and rage from there. The Gauntlet is exactly what it sounds like; a mode where you must survive wave after frustrating wave of increasingly difficult enemies.
The game is an impressive one built by a talented team of developers and artists from Full Sail University who love what they do and have bright futures ahead of them if they keep up on the same track. Check it out, it???¢??s worth it, as I am one among a large group of people who have thoroughly enjoyed the game. You can find it on indiedb at http://www.indiedb.com/games/noxious. Be sure to try out the Gauntlet mode!
