Battlefield 3's opening-week sales of 5 million were bolstered by preorders that exceeded 3 million units. According to Lazard Capital Markets analyst Atul Bagga, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's preorders are nearly three times EA's shooter.
Bagga's findings also indicate that Modern Warfare 3's preorders are up 70% from Modern Warfare 2 and 55% from Black Ops at the same time prior to launch. Lazard Capital Markets expects Modern Warfare 3 to sell more than 20 million units worldwide by the end of the year! Activision said in August that lifetime sales for Modern Warfare 2 reached 22 million while Black Ops sold 25 million.
In the lead up to its launch, Activision went live with their social platform, Call of Duty: Elite. The service has both a free and a paid component, with premium subscriptions for $50 getting you a year's worth of access. COD: Elite subscribers will get access to all pieces of downloadable content released for the game and they can participate in competitions for real and virual prizes. Paid members can also level up clans and receive eight times more video-capture capacity.
Modern Warfare 3 will launch November 8th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and PC.
