XBOX 360 US PSU Servers to Close on 9/7/2012
By: Pinkie Pie (Matty Jei) (June 9, 2012 At 11:02 am CDT)

According to a report by TSSZ News, the current game in the online family for the Phantasy Star franchise, "Phantasy Star Universe," is coming to a close after a 6-year run.

Edward@Sega, the general manager for PSU, spoke on the company forums about the upcoming shut-down.

"This was not an easy decision but there comes a time when we must consider the level of service and support we can provide for an ongoing game, and balance those concerns against preparing for the future, and providing you with new opportunities and new experiences...The time has come where we must move forward. We wish to thank every single one of you for your part in this journey...it has been a long run for our intrepid GUARDIANS: Across the Gurhal system for six years now, exploring new worlds and new challenges. While we are saddened to close the doors to PSU on Xbox 360, we are proud of the game and of our loyal fans who have supported us through the years."

I am against personal bias in reviews, but not in news, so I'm going to share my own feelings on this matter...

It's not easy news for me to hear, even though the rumors have been floating around since early in the week.  I've invested a lot of time and a lot of work into this game...it's been something dear to me that I've shared with a very close friend I have in the St. Cloud, Minnesota area and we've enjoyed it immensely together.  A couple months ago when we were both expecting PSO2 news, I told him I'd prolly cry when the news came about regarding this. Well, today I wake up to the news and I'm crying.

Thank you to SEGA for one of the best incarnations in the franchise to date...here's hoping PSO2 is even more amazing.  I'll never forget PSU... T_T  *sobs*
