Call of Duty Elite hits 1 million users
By: wolfblake (November 25, 2011 At 3:51 am CST)
Call of Duty Elite's launch wasn't smooth for PC users, but that didn't stop it from enlisting more than a few good men.

Activision announced that within six days of Elite's launch, the service had 1 million paid subscriptions. According to the publisher, it took high-profile subscription services like Netflix, Hulu, Sirius XM, and Xbox Live a full year to hit the 1 million mark.

Remember that CoD Elite isn't strictly a paid service. Elite provides players with gameplay stats, video sharing, and clans for free, but those who pay $50 for the annual subscription will also receive all DLC released this year, exclusive video content and other perks. Combining the free tier with the paid subscribers, Activision reported more than 4 million Elite registrants. Put together, those members have formed 80,000 clans and uploaded more than 100,000 user videos.

Activision has acknowledged a mistake with one of the numbers it announced. Previously, the publisher claimed to have had 3.3 million simultaneous playing Modern Warfare 3, but last night it amended that figure, to 1.4 million. The 3.3 million was total players on day one, not concurrent players.
